Film Production

There were nine young women who took part in a cross community programme with three young travellers from An Munia Tober. They worked along side an organisation from England called Bold Face Productions. These young women got the opportunity to design, create and edit two five minute documentaries, looking at the issues these young women face in their daily lives.

One documentary centred on gossip chains, and reflected on how each individual had been affected by this issue. The other documentary centred on how the travelling community felt they were being portrayed, and how they believe they are similar to young women in the ‘settled community’.

The young women’s documentaries are being launched in Queen’s Film Theatre on Saturday the 19th of February. Following the launch, the documentaries will be shown on the UTV website and ‘true tube’ website and UTV channel itself.

Virtual Babies

The young women’s group on a Tuesday night are currently taking part in a virtual babies course with the Shankill Women’s Centre. In this group we learn about the advantages and disadvantages of being a young mum, and how much money is needed to buy all the things that a child needs. We experienced (virtually) what it feels like to be pregnant at  3, 6 and 9 months through the bump. This will give us a taster of what it is like being a young mum.
